old ink

you were all pens and paper
and i was old ink,
in journals long forgotten
were pages where I’d bleed.

you were a tall beautiful tree
and i was your roots —
they would step all over me
while they’d admire you.

see we were just like little kids
sniffing elmer’s glue
but now i just bleed on pages
and dream about the ghost of you.
