the next one
skipped stones have always reminded me of relationships.
they’re fun to look for
but get tiring after a while.
then you find that perfect stone.
and like the water it gently trounces upon,
it creates a wave of ripples in your life.
sometimes multiple.
we often enjoy each impact it makes; the stone.
each ripple, the many shared experiences,
some of which go unnoticed… forgotten
and then suddenly it stops,
it sinks.
and though you may have chosen the stone,
you slowly forget about it as it drowns.
focusing only on the skips it had skipped
and a few ripples neither here nor there,
as you search for the next one.
